PEO EIS Marks Big Change for Army Data Programs
Col. Rob Wolfe, project manager for PEO EIS’ Army Data and Analytics Platforms project office, welcomed Lt. Col. Laura-Jane (LJ) Freeland as product manager (PdM) for the new Army Data Platform (ADP) product office at an assumption of charter ceremony held May 19. With the formation of ADP, Army Vantage and AESIP Hub program components have been folded up into this product office supporting the Army’s and PEO EIS’ data missions.
As PdM, Freeland is responsible for the cost, schedule and performance of ADP, which will collect, catalogue, integrate, analyze and visualize data from disparate source systems to support fact-based and resource-informed decision-making across all echelons of the Army for all its multi-domain operations.
As noted, ADP will be responsible for Army Vantage and AESIP Hub. Army Vantage is the Army’s data-driven operations and decision-making platform joining millions of data points into artificial intelligence/machine learning-capable applications informing decisions on everything from personnel readiness to financial return on investment. AESIP Hub improves Army information readiness and data agility by providing timely and data-relevant information to fully enable fact-based and resource-informed decision-making by Soldiers.
“It’s not often we get leaders back in the formation who have already served with us,” said Wolfe during the ceremony. “When we heard Lt. Col. Freeland was coming back for a second tour with PEO EIS, we thought we won the lottery. She already understands our business and the unique support we give to Soldiers. And as one of the most well-rounded acquisition officers I’ve ever met, she knows every part of the life cycle and will be able to think out of the box to deliver new and innovative data services to the Army.”
Freeland is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and served in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. She also has a strong background in acquisition — from Project Management Office DOD Biometrics aligned under EIS, to service on the Assistant Secretary of the Army, Acquisition, Logistics and Technology staff. Freeland has completed the resident Command and General Staff Officers Course and earned her MBA from Norwich University. Her awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with silver oak leaf cluster, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Unit Citation and the Army Superior Unit Award. She is authorized to wear the Army Staff Identification Badge and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge (Bronze). In 2019, she was awarded the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
