Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Where can I find information about PEO EIS vacancies?

A:  USAJOBS is the official job site for all government jobs, including positions within PEO EIS. For internal candidates, PEO EIS vacancies are also posted on the PEO EIS SharePoint portal under HR/Job Openings.

Q: What is a vacancy announcement?

A:  Vacancy announcements are the means by which an agency advertises its vacancies. The announcements describe position information, including the title, salary, duties, qualification requirements, closing dates and application procedures.

Q:  What is a closing date?

A:  The closing date is the last day you can apply for the job. The vacancy announcement will specify the acceptance period for electronic submission. For positions requiring a hard copy, the vacancy announcement should specify whether your application should be received or postmarked by the closing date.

Q:  How does the federal pay system work?

A:  There are 15 grades in the General Schedule (GS) pay system; each grade has 10 steps. Upon your first appointment to a GS position, you will typically be placed in the first step of the grade for which you are selected. For more details, please click the following link: http://www.opm.gov/oca/06tables/index.asp
