Beverly Whitmore is a member of PEO EIS’ Global Combat Support System – Army (GCSS-Army) team, where she serves as the architecture and release management lead and the Disconnected Operations Solution (DISCOPS) project lead. With nearly 18 years of government contracting experience prior to joining the civilian workforce, Beverly has served in a variety of roles, including technical writer/editor, computer-based tutorial developer and Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) architect at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM). Beverly is our newest #TeammateTuesday spotlight.
Tell us about your role and responsibilities at PEO EIS?
As part of the GCSS-Army Technical Management Division, I’m responsible for architecture and release management and lead the program’s DISCOPS project. Much of my time for the past couple of years has been spent managing the DISCOPS prototype project’s contract, working with vendors, agreements officers, writing reports and briefing leadership.
When did you join PEO EIS and what made you want to?
I came to GCSS-Army in 2008 as a contractor. Prior to that, I was at CASCOM as part of the DoDAF “architecture cell,” where I collaborated with Army subject matter experts in support of various CASCOM initiatives. I enjoyed working with the Army, so when GCSS-Army needed support developing the DoDAF architecture, I jumped at the chance.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The people! I believe relationships matter, so I’m thankful to work with an exceptional and talented team of contractors, consultants and government civilians. I can always depend on our team to provide me whatever support or information I need to meet deadlines or respond to the many taskers that come our way. Their dedication motivates me. I treasure all the relationships I have with my coworkers, friends and family.
What are some of your favorite books?
The Bible has to be number one. Other than that, I tend to like mysteries with a little romance thrown in — maybe Sandra Brown, James Patterson and especially stories about South Carolina’s Lowcountry, which is one of my favorite places to visit.
How do you enjoy spending your free time?
First and foremost, with my family. I have two married daughters and the most amazing grandsons ever. Anytime we can get together, we have so much fun. After raising two daughters, the adventures boys take me on are so different and exciting — and exhausting! When I’m not spending time with my family, you can find me at yoga. I’ve been practicing yoga for about eight years, and I really enjoy it.
What’s something unique about you that not many people know?
I was raised in a family full of medical professionals, and my plan was to go to pharmacy school. Instead, I wound up at GCSS-Army, and I couldn’t be happier.
What’s your favorite meal?
Dessert, especially cheesecake.
What are you most proud of in your life thus far?
My daughters. They are happy, healthy, and love people and Jesus. I couldn’t ask for more.
